Democratization of Expertise means that access to tools and systems, which are normally for IT experts is also open to laypersons.

Knowledge becomes common property – Low Code and Co. make it possible

Create a website easily and quickly yourself? That's nothing new today:

Due to digitalization, it is now possible for a broad mass of people to access knowledge from any field. This also applies to technical and business expertise, for which, in the past, specific training, education, and licenses were required. The market research institute Gartner appropriately calls this process "democratization" and ranks it third among the top technology trends for 2020.

The trend encompasses the following main aspects in the technology environment: Democratization of Data and Analytics, Development, Design, and Knowledge. In concrete terms, this means that access to tools and systems, which are otherwise reserved for IT experts and go beyond one's expertise and training, is also open to laypersons. This leads to an increase in so-called "citizen data scientists" and "citizen developers." For example, such democratization allows developers to build data models without a data scientist's skills. Instead, they rely on AI-driven development to generate codes and automate tests. Thus, together with this is the use of AI tools and machine learning.

In particular, the low keyword code often comes up in this context. This means "little code" or "little programming" and is precisely that: simplifying software creation that would otherwise have to be programmed at great expense. The system does the actual programming. Gartner refers to persons who this forward-looking type of implementation as "Citizen Developer." Responsibilities and rules are thus digitalized enormously quickly and are immediately available.

The introduction of such solutions requires an investment in the establishment of a development highway. However, it makes sense to implement a long-term digital strategy, as it allows know-how and personnel to be built up.

The advantages are obvious: Eliminating the need for a time-consuming and cost-intensive introduction to topics and tools. The IT Department is relieved but not made redundant. Thus, it can concentrate on the remaining, time-intensive, 20% of back-office processes that such tools cannot cover.
